At the Sonnenhof, we think about tomorrow today. We place a high value on togetherness as well as regional and seasonal appreciation. It is not for nothing that we are the only certified organic tourist business in Maria Alm. And not for the sake of “greenwashing”, but out of deep conviction. We want to reach our guests with our sustainable, nature-loving concept, because for us organic symbolises quality of life, experience and joy. Sustainability aspect at the Sonnenhof

At the Sonnenhof, this principle can be found first and foremost in our organic breakfast, where the majority of the products are sourced from local farmers and producers. The organic milk and yoghurt are delivered fresh, natural and directly from the farm “Mei Muich” in Leogang. Reusable bottles and jars are used to counteract huge mountains of waste. Our organic coffee and tea comes from the Schärf family in Saalfelden. They deal exclusively in organic goods as well as plastic and plastic-free packaging, and also do without aluminium coatings.

The Sonnenhof has also found regional trading partners in the Fersterer apiary directly from Maria Alm and in the Imlauer organic farm with its organic eggs from Saalfelden. Bread and pastries are sourced from the Bauer bakery in Mühlbach, which has been upholding baking tradition with its numerous organic products for over 100 years.

Our organic breakfast undergoes regular voluntary inspections and is awarded the organic certificate. For all those sweet tooths who can’t get enough of our regional goods, there’s plenty to explore and of course also to purchase in our hotel shop.

An entire hotel thought sustainably

The deep conviction for organic and sustainability reflects not only what we stand for, but also what we stand behind. This runs like a red thread through the entire Sonnenhof:

Our climate-friendly geothermal air pump heating provides warm rooms in winter and natural cooling in summer.
The SONNENhof refuels with SONNEN energy. The photovoltaic system (25 kW) on the roof supplies the heating with electricity. This means that hardly any additional electricity is needed.
Natural insulation is provided by means of rock wool and a wooden shingle façade. In addition, the external blinds provide ideal lighting conditions.
Plastic cards are not used for room keys.
Recycled paper has been used for brochures and business cards.
As a merciless energy guzzler, combined with high purchase and maintenance costs, we also deliberately do without mini-fridges in the hotel rooms. Chilled drinks from our self-service fridge in the breakfast room are suitable as thirst quenchers.
