Geocaching is like a mixture of hiking, orienteering and scavenger hunt. Armed with a GPS device, you go on a great treasure hunt across open terrain, accompanied by little riddles and exciting journeys of discovery. The steadily growing community, but also beginners feel right at home with geocaching on the Hochkönig. With the Highking Code, there is now even a separate tour exclusively for geocachers!

Hiking and geocaching in one

Hard to believe, but true: The Highking Code is the first official geotour in Austria. On three stages, it combines geocaching and hiking on exciting trails that lead through all Hochkönig communities. A total of 33.5 km, 1,900 metres of altitude difference and about 14 hours of pure walking time are on the programme – perfect for a tour lasting several days for experienced geocachers. Real challenges await you here, with crisp ascents and numerous places to stop for refreshments along the way. It is even possible to stay overnight in the huts to continue the search for the 35 puzzles the next day.

Geocoin as a reward

The Highking Code begins in the center of Mühlbach and runs along the Erzweg to the Arthurhaus with the Nightcache as an exciting attraction. The tour leads along the Hochkönig into the Riedingtal, takes a look at the waterfalls and is dedicated to the four huts as well as the Erichhütte and the Pichlalm.

Hinterthal and the Urslauweg are further stations before the final ascent with the Natrun is on the program. This is where the last codes are cracked before heading down into the valley to Maria Alm. As a reward for solving all 35 puzzles, treasure chests await in the three Hochkönig communities with a personal geocoin as a souvenir for mastering this gripping challenge.
